  from my pre-teens until i was 18, i was in every circuit assembly and district convention----having either ministry school talks or parts or experiences.

  at 20, i conducted a bookstudy in the afternoon, also regular pioneered, was the theocratic ministry school overseer in the 2nd school and regularly taught the main school.

  If my daughter, who was raped at nine years old by a known (to the elders) pedophile ever harms herself because of this cult, I will personally shoot the body of elders responsible. We'll see if Jehovah God can stop me.

  mcsemike - I am so sorry to hear that you and your family have experienced this kind of trauma. It is hard not to feel hate over this situation. Have you and your daughter talked to anyone who specializes in dealing with this kind of situation - a counselor, I mean? It sounds like you and she have an awful lot of grief and anger to work through and it would be better not to take it out on any elders, even though it often times seems they deserve it; please find a professional in your community to discuss this with. Again, I am truly, truly sorry to hear of your terrible experience.

  Minimus - If you were one of the fool elders who sat in on my JC to disfellowship me when I was 15, I just want to personally thank you for helping free me of one of the most anxiety-inducing, sick-minded addictions I have ever encountered. Thank you, Lord Minimus (and his henchmen)!

  And thanks for the story. Glad you're here and not sitting in on any more JCs.

  i have often wondered what's in it for the women???

  i just read the story of minimus and it is so clear that such power and privilege on offer to males in the borg would be enticing and probably addictive... but the women will never have such offers or opportunities.

  they will always be required to be in subjection.

  There are a lot of people who like the status quo - whether it is because of it being familiar pain or familiarly easy - no matter if one is a jw and no matter if one is male or female.

  For one, a built-in social network. For women who didn't have very nurturing mothers, they can find surrogate "mothers" in the congregation. For co-dependents, there is a never ending supply of people who need to be "helped." Ambitious women can control a tremendous amount of the tone of the congregation with social gatherings, and influencing their husbands. Praise and rewards for being "traditional," it's very easy to get kudos for being a stay-at-home mom when you're a witness. "Headship" means never having to be responsible for bad decisions, since the "head of the house" is the primary (some say ONLY) decision maker of consequence in the family.

  Yes, women give up lots of power to be JWs, but if you can get past the mind-bending, thought-numbing cultishness of it all, there are definite bonuses. Just ask my mother.

  I'm not saying any of those things would be motivators for healthy, happy women, but they are getting something out of it.

  Very, very insightful, and very true from my observations and experience, Odrade. Also, jgnat, what you said makes me think not just about the jws who do this (blamegame), but some of us xjws who are having trouble moving on. It is very easy to fall into that trap from either side of the proverbial jw/xjw fence. In many ways I feel the time I spend here is well spent, but sometimes I wonder, what other things will I do and accomplish, if I just walk away from this computer/xjw boards and never glue myself to it again, instead of incessantly bitching about the jws and most particularly about my abandoning family . . .

  Strange Talks

  the thread regarding how the ms and elders keeping up the facade while knowing its all wrong made me think of something.. this happened in the ministerial service meeting.

  the ms started his part on the program but it was soon evident that he was not firing on all cylinders.

  his speech was monotone, slurred even.

  I loved that. The expressiveness of each face really is amazing; I only wish the transition from piece to piece was a bit slower. What a neat idea! I hope nobody gets sued for plagiarism or anything. It's so cool. I emailed it to my daughter. She's an aspiring artist and loves youtube, too.

  i adopted my cat 14 years ago today.

  she is 14years and 2 months old.. i'd do it all over again..... .

  Princess, our dog of 11 years disappeared last summer.

  Our cat of 10 years was killed by pit bulls about a month ago.

  We now have the other two cats - one a kitten dumped in our yard last summer and another I adopted from Friends Of Felines about 3 years ago.

  We have also been taking care of the landlord's dog and cat from downstairs for a few years.

  No more pets. So I say . . . Someone's bound to find us another one any time now.

  Would you allow your kid to do a really dangerous sport?

  i'd like to get your thoughts.

  we are torn parents.

  having both been raised jws, we said that we'd allow our kids to do what they wanted to in sports.

  Glad you found a solution!

  Take all the precautions you can and keep him on the gentlest horses you can find.

  My daughter rides horses sometimes and I do not go to watch. The last time I saw her ride, she ended up on a very jumpy horse and it wrecked my nerves. The other times she rode, she was in a better controlled environment and had gentler horses.

  A friend of ours takes her and she always wears a helmet and is mindful of getting gentle horses due to daughter's limited experience.

  She loves it and I understand why, but with my anxiety issues - whew - it's good she has someone else to take her - someone I trust as a very, very attentive and responsible parent.

  I can relate to your angst - it is a worry, but you can't stop your kids from living their lives; we all take risks every day. Some risks are worth taking. Keep your son happy and be safe!
